The Thresher Sharks tail is as longs as its body length. They can reach a length of twenty and
weight in excess of 1000lbs, most that are caught in New York waters go up to about 600lbs.
Its tail is used to help it feed by pushing the bait into its mouth.
It dwells in the depths of the ocean down to 1000ft and is seldom seen near shore.
Threshers have a life expectancy of up to 50 years, they are
considered slow growers and do not mature until they reach a length of 10-12 ft.
The female thresher generally only produces two pups
that are 4-5ft long when born.
