Shark fishing generally starts in June and runs through October.

Best time to fish for quantity of sharks is the early part of the season.
June is generally the best time, as montauk waters warm the quality of sharks improves. That's also why our Montauk Shark Tournaments are run during that time of year.

Mako’s start about the middle of June and July/August is the best time during the summer leaving October to be the best in the fall.

Shark fishing is generally a day time affair. This type of fishing is good early or late in the day. The time of the day is not important as location, and drift can make the day worth while.

Determining drift and location is genersally done the morning of the trip. Since it is very dificult to do far in advance, each day the ocean is changing and no two days are the same.

Types of sharks that are caught in Montauk are Blue, Mako and Thresher.
There are other sharks such as Browns,Dusky,Hammerheads but for the most part these are the exception.
